How You Grow Wings by Rimma Onoseta- A Review

Just a rant : I love sister sister and at some point in my life I wanted a twin sister. How cool would it have been having someone you could share clothes with and of course the best friend without trying title.

Release Date: August 9 2022

Genre : African Lit/Fiction/Young Adult

Author: Rimma Onoseta

Themes:sibling relationships,mother-daughter dynamics,resilience,colorism and class

Popular book by author : It’s a debut!

Anci’s Book Summary : A huge thanks to the author and Algonquin Young Readers for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are entirely my own .

What a moving debut set in modern day Nigeria. The story follows two sisters Zam and Cheta who grow up in a household with a difficult mother. One gets the opportunity to leave while the other stays behind to find her own path . They each have to find their own path and eventually to each other. One builds ‘resilence’ as their mother is overbearing and the other staying with the rich aunt and uncle struggles to find her own voice I cannot recommend this book enough!Help us all if you read it without ensuring your wig is fastened properly because the mother can drive a sane person bonkers

Character/s I am obsessed with : Zam and Cheta

Character/s I identify with: Zam because she struggles to speak up

Character/s I didn’t vibe with : Zam and Cheta’s mother

What I liked about the book: It’s a strong debut and fast paced book
