Riverbend Gap by Denise Hunter -A Review

Just a rant: I love a good romance and so I naturally get all mushy when I encounter a romance story because who doesn’t

Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance

Publishing Date: 19 October 2021

Themes: Family /Grief/ Addiction/ Adoption

Romance Genre: Love Triangle

Anci’s book summary: A huge thanks to Thomas Nelson for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I firmly believe that I am Denise Hunter’s biggest fan from Zimbabwe because this book had me feeling all kinds of mushy. This is the first book in a series set in the small town of Riverbend.

The book follows the sweet but strong, funny, and witty Katelyn Loveland affectionally known as Katie and Cooper the one sibling that can never hold down a relationship (but can he). Katie and Cooper in the most terrifying meet cute when her car veers off the road and ends on hanging on the cliffside. Luckily he happens to be enjoying the sunset drive when he stumbles on her and ends up rescuing her. While waiting for help to arrive they end up bonding but it’s not happy ever after because he then discover’s that she’s actually his brother’s new girlfriend, they try to be friends but no one can deny the chemistry between them. Oh mayn, this was such a gooooood book

Anci’s Book Review

Themes : Family/ Adoption /Faith

Anci’s Verdict: This book was just amazing! If you have ever lost your faith and felt like you are not lovable then this book will make you cry for a bit. I loved how the author was able to incorporate the challenges of adoption and how grief impacts the one left behind

The book follows Neil Hamilton a broken man who is still reeling from the car accident that broke his heart so he is a little bitter and angry at God. What makes it sad is that he is an award-winning history teacher who has lost himself and his teaching spark. His life gets a huge shake when Maggie Bryne the most bubbly and awesome’s baker foster son Oliver foster son stumbles down the trail from home into Neil’s yard. He immediately bonds with Neil and clings to him for comfort. Maggie comes pounding at Neil’s door in search of Oliver. Neil thinks she’s not a responsible parent (because we tend to judge first and listen later) but as they spend time together sparks fly.

Character/s that I loved: Ruby (this woman’s faith was just on point)

The character most like me: Maggie

Book Excerpt :

But we don’t always get what we deserve, do we?” Maggie was watching him closely now, and
she seemed to be choosing her words carefully. “Life’s not like that. God’s plan can be pretty
mysterious. Sometimes bad things happen to us that we don’t deserve. Sometimes that flips
around, and we get a blessing we haven’t earned. Like tonight.” She smiled. “I know I was kind
of chilly with you when we left the school. I sure didn’t deserve for you to be such a good sport
when I banged on your door at two in the morning, carrying a screaming toddler—who’s
drooling all over your shirt, by the way. You’re actually a pretty great guy, Neil Hamilton.”
I used to be. He wanted to tell her that. He hadn’t cared much what anybody thought of him in
years, but for some reason, he wanted this woman to know that once upon a time he had been a
different kind of guy. The sort of guy she would have liked.
Instead, he said, “That probably just proves you don’t know me any better than Oliver does
.”

This Time Around- A Review

Just a rant : I love me some swoony romance book because reading romance is self-care and if you don’t agree you haven’t found a good romance

Publishing Date : 13 Jul 2021

Genre : Contemporary Romance

Anci’s book summary : A huge thanks to Thomas Nelson for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This Time Around is three novellas if I must say myself by three great authors about second chance romance and yes they may have changed my mind regarding second chance romance.

The first book in the story  A Summer Detour by Denise Hunter. This book tells the story of free-spirited Allie Adams who voluntarily signs up to go on a road-trip to suprise her grandparents with a newly restored Chevy ahead of the party. She enlists the help of the guy that broke her heart . It was the sweetest second-chance romance .

Pining for You by Melissa Ferguson is a cozy novella set in a mountain town and Theo who has the best job ever (he is a Christmas tree farm owner *read it and call me out*) . He goes on a mission that only he can do-that is to win the heart of his childhood sweetheart .

The last novella is He Loves Me; He loves me not by Kathleen Fuller is a never too late to find love typa novella about thirty-five-year old Sophie Morgan who decides it’s now time to find love. Cue the confetti because she ends up with more than one suitor.

All the novellas are swoonworthy and totally ideal for a summer night or rainy day.

Character/s I loved : Theo from Pinning for you

Character/s I related to: Allie from A SummerDetour

Character/s that made me cringe: None

Cutest name ever : Skye
